New on SI: How the Patriots Scouting Tree Keeps Branching Out

SI Patriots team reporter Devon Clements shares some insight into the Patriots success

The New England Patriots success can be attributed to many different factors, and inarguably the coaching staff has bolstered the Patriots success during Tom Brady's run with the team; but scouting has also played an important role in the team's success over the last two decades.

Madelyn Burke: While some of the Patriots coaching alumni have had a bit of a hard time finding success once they've left New England, the team's scouting alumni has become a force on that side of the business. Joining me now is SI Patriots reporter Devin Clemens. Devin, how has the Patriots scouting department been able to keep branching out and finding such success?

Devon Clements: Well, the one person that can be praised for that is Bill Belichick. He's the one that's at the foundation in the Patriots organization, whether it be in the front office, scouting department or in football operations in general. He has a similar approach to his scouting department that he goes anywhere else in the organizations, bringing in guys that are football junkies, guys that are gonna work hard no matter the workload. And they're also versatile so they can cover different positions, scout different positions, or just do different things in the front office that allow them to be the perfect candidates. When an executive or director job comes available in the NFL.

Madelyn Burke: And of course, we've seen plenty of those examples where guys join former colleagues at new organizations for a quick promotion. Devin Clements, thank you so much for the time.
